T.A.G. at Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary School

Program Information

The TAG program in Fulton County provides enrichment for intellectually advanced and exceptionally creative students. It is designed to address the unique learning characteristics, interests, personal needs and capabilities of gifted children. The program model used at Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary is a pull-out model where students receive all day instruction once per week. Students participate in specials, lunch, recess, and dismissal with their regular homeroom class.
At all grade levels, the TAG Program’s goals are to:
-
Develop advanced research methods and independent learning
-
Generate new ideas and products
-
Develop higher order and critical thinking skills
-
Develop advanced communication skills
The program includes challenging interdisciplinary units related to science and social studies curriculum and the new Georgia Performance Standards.
TAG progress report cards are issued after each of the three curriculum units. Students will receive a grade of satisfactory (S), needs improvement (N), or not evaluated (NE). Classwork and papers are sent home at the end of each unit. Homework is rare, but may include gathering resources or research. Many of the TAG units are tied to science and social studies standards, so you may see a connection between what your child is learning in TAG and in their regular class. However, TAG projects go further in-depth and extend students’ knowledge through advanced communication, advanced research, creative problem solving, and higher order critical thinking skills.
